Dancing and crying

Socius Laboratory 11-2024

Overview

A dance evening as part of the „The Sound of Grief" Week of Mourning – a series of events organised by the Bereavement Task Force

There is a kind of grief that does not want to be talked about, but rather expressed through movement. Sometimes it needs a sound that is louder than a sentence, or a body that moves faster than the mind can keep up with. This evening, we’ll create a space for that: with dance and movement, voices and sounds, and a small ritual – all of which may be loud, soft, wild or still, whatever feels right at the time.
We – Nicola Kriesel and Christa Cocciole – are co-hosting this evening. Together, we bring several decades’ experience of working with people, whether in somatic work, grief counselling, trauma therapy, global social witnessing or dance practice.
This evening, we will draw on this practice: inspired by the Five Rhythms, elements of witnessing and vocal sounds – broken down and reassembled for this very evening.

For whom?

For whom?

For anyone who is carrying a sense of loss within them and wishes to give it space – whether due to a death, a break-up, an illness, saying goodbye to a sense of belonging, or a vision of the future. Grief takes many forms, and none of them needs to be explained or justified here. No previous dance experience is required – just the desire and willingness to allow your own body and voice to be a means of expression. It is not a performance – nobody is watching; we are all right in the thick of it.
